Hand sanitizer, student bulletins and keeping informed on Swine Flu developments are part of the awareness strategy
Edmonton, AB - October 18, 2009 - Reeves College campuses are prepared for the H1N1 flu and are staying up to date on all developments, says a school representative.
"We post the regional health department advice bulletins, have placed hand sanitizers strategically throughout the campuses, and discuss H1N1 updates regularly at our director meetings," says Bev Sillito, Regional Director for Reeves College.
The H1N1 virus, also known as Swine Flu, is transmitted the same way as the seasonal flu. Students can reduce the spread of germs by washing hands for a minimum of 20 seconds, covering the mouth with a tissue when sneezing or coughing, avoiding touching the eyes, nose and mouth, and using hand sanitizers.
Communication with health services agencies and students is also key.
"Alberta Health Services and Alberta Health and Wellness have established a post-secondary pandemic liaison group," says Sillito. "Communication is being coordinated between that group, Alberta Advanced Education and Technology and private career colleges."
Alberta Health Services recommends that those who are experiencing flu symptoms stay home from school and work and limit contact with others to prevent others from catching the flu.
Students are advised to connect with a "study buddy" in their classes, who can help pass on homework and lecture notes in the event of an illness.
