Finding networking and professional development opportunities in Calgary is about as easy as finding exciting festivals, restaurants, markets and activities in the city. Whether they're gaining experience in business administration or learning how to become a paralegal, students can take part in professional networking events while they're in school. Here are a few events happening in Calgary that they can benefit from attending.

Young Women of Influence: Evening Series
This speaker series is devoted to supporting and inspiring women in Calgary, helping them boost their careers and providing them with workplace advice. This October, renowned lawyer Evelyn Ackah of Ackah Business Immigration Law will present "Negotiating Your Career," at the Westin Calgary. Ackah will discuss the potential obstacles women may face when asking for what they want in their careers, but also how it can be an exciting professional challenge for them to overcome.

With a team based in Calgary and Vancouver, the successful company founder has a jam-packed agenda, but still makes time to speak at conferences and seminars across the country. She also regularly contributes to publications such as The Lawyers Weekly, Law Times and The Globe and Mail. Those who come out on October 10, from 5:30 to 7:30pm will have a chance to interact with like-minded professionals, enjoy complimentary refreshments and hors d'oeuvres, and win coveted raffle prizes by the end of the evening.

South Asian Professionals Network
In Calgary, students can likely find any organization that suits their particular interests or desires, and one of them is the South Asian Professionals Network. With regular meetup events every month, the group of Calgary adults discuss the local economy, job opportunities and how to impress hiring managers with top-notch resumes and quality cover letters. The diverse group has a shared heritage but boasts a variety of professional backgrounds, including engineering, healthcare, business, banking and law.

Held on Saturday, October 13, at 5:30 p.m., the group meeting is relaxed and casual, providing light refreshments for all who attend.

Students who are interested in establishing their careers in the city of Calgary can start by enrolling in business or legal courses at Reeves College. For more information, fill out the form on the right.
