Get Organized to Keep Your Career Goals on Track

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

Planning out your work-related goals for the year and keeping track of them can help you improve your career. In a recent Globe and Mail article, Chris Skoles, a computer system developer, spoke about how workers should organize a separate calendar for their professional goals. This includes mapping out a schedule to reach certain milestones, committing to improvement and taking responsibility for their actions.

Certain best practices can help you achieve your goals. Break down a long-term project into smaller chunks that can seem more manageable, spreading out the required responsibilities in a way that is both practical and efficient. This will allow you to see your progress and will boost your self confidence.

While many people may lament the lack of time they have to devote to their personal goals, the idea of spreading them out can help you focus on the smaller parts that make up each one. It also makes it easy to remain consistent with efforts and see just how the progress is coming along, providing encouragement and small successes for employees to take note of as they continue to work toward their goals.

A calendar detailing the ins and out of each aspiration allows workers to judge the pace they should be on as they strive for their goals. Holidays or personal matters can occasionally interfere with professional progress, but writing goals in a calendar can help individuals see the big picture of their lives and how the different aspects of their life tie together.

If students are eager to improve themselves in an effort to land a job in the healthcare field, they can use some of these goal-setting techniques to work on their skills or make progress in their job search. Students can prepare for their careers by taking courses in the Medical Office Assistant program at Reeves College. For more information on the program, fill out the form on the right.
