The best backdrop for the holidays is winter in Alberta! Lights glow brighter against the thick sheets of snow so brace the cold! Head outside this winter and indulge yourself in a few holiday activities.
Candy Cane Lane
Walk down 10 blocks illuminated with Christmas decorations. This winter will mark the 40th annual display for Candy Cane Lane, which will be open from December 12, 2014 to January 4, 2015. For a donation to the food bank, visitors can stroll through the residential area where houses and lawns are reminiscent of gingerbread houses.

Ice Walks
Winter sports are extremely popular in Alberta but why not enjoy a guided tour and discover some natural ice sculptures? Johnston Canyon in Banff or Maligne Canyon in Jasper are great places to start. Witness the formidability of the winter when it clashes with waterfalls, cliffs, and mountains.

Airdrie Festival of Lights
For a donation of choice, visitors can check out the Airdrie Festival of Lights at Nose Creek Park from December 1, 2014 to New Year’s Eve. Take a stroll or hop on the miniature train ride with your family, friends, and pets and enjoy the beautiful display. If it gets too cold, visitors can cuddle up with a cup of hot chocolate by one of the bonfires. A special fireworks show will take place on New Year’s Eve.

Christmas in Canmore
Outdoor movies, skating, and light decorations! Staring from November 28 to December 31, 2014, Christmas in Canmore lets you experience the quaint town away from all the city buzz. If you’re up for an adventure, go snowshoeing, dogsledding, or head over to the Canmore Nordic Centre for some cross country skiing.
