Thursday, April 30, 2020

Entering the world of post-secondary offers the exciting promise of a new career and other highly-rewarding outcomes. While COVID-19 has led to a few challenges for post-secondary institutions and its students, there are services available in which students can talk through their concerns and any difficulties they’re currently facing.

The Government of Alberta has a number of available resources and helpful links for all residents of the province. Alberta Health Services includes important phone numbers, such as help and crisis lines, online resources, and self-help guides. Receive support in a variety of topics from emotional preparedness to healthy living and managing stress.

For over 50 years, the Distress Centre Calgary (DCC) is available to all residents of Alberta, offering a 24-hour crisis line, email, daily chat, and texting services for youth. Free professional counselling is also available for those who need it, however an appointment is required to book a session.

With free counselling and 24-hour support, the Distress Centre Calgary offers its services in over 200 languages. DCC remains open in light of COVID-19 and offers its services fully online and by telephone. For more information on how to obtain professional counselling or speak to someone in real-time, visit the Distress Centre Calgary’s website.
